In its beginning, Delta was a trading post for Ute Indians and new settlers. In 1989, the City of Delta reconstructed the trading post used by traders and trappers, making it as similar as possible to the original, built in 1828. Fort Uncompahgre was moved 1.5 miles upriver from its initial location, and is now part of the present-day city of Delta.
A growing senior citizen population and senior programs are also found in Delta, which is considered optimal for retirement due to the climate, variety of housing, excellent health care, personal safety, economics and recreation.
Recreational activities are abundant in Delta and include: golfing, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, hunting and skiing, all within an hour’s drive.
