Make the Most of the Economy
Thursday, August 19th, 2010Happy Thursday once again! It appears that housing starts are up about 1.7% in July, but reports for future building don’t look as optimistic. Nothing really surprising here, as low interest rates aren’t driving any more people into homes than before. Unemployment rates are still up, which means personal savings are still low. Whether you’re a homeowner or renter, however, the economy doesn’t have to have such a bleak outlook.
If you’re looking to make the most of an economy that’s going to take awhile to shift, why not look around your own backyard for things you, your family and friends can do with little green? Here in the San Juans, we’re really blessed with a great scene outdoors. We have year-round excitement, from summer hiking and rafting to winter skiing. When’s the last time you looked in your backyard? We don’t necessarily have to travel far or spend a ton to get the most out of our days.
Ideas for low-cost recreation:
- Neighborhood potlucks and BBQs – gather at the community pool or in someone’s backyard and enjoy the day!
- Explore a local canyon – hiking, climbing, ATVs, whatever floats your boat!
- A day trip in the car – pick a place you’ve never been and just go! Enjoy lunch while you’re at it.
- Local parks – grab a ball, volleyball net, whatever it takes. Enjoy.
If you’re looking for things to do, we keep a local events calendar up-to-date so you don’t have to dig for what’s going on. And another thing to do? Stop by our office if you’re in the area and say hi!
